Wale, Nigerian rapper based in the US, is in the news again. The rapper’s new album
The Gifted drops on June 25th, and the
interesting cover art has stirred up a bit of controversy. Taking to his
Instagram, the MMG rappers responded to the naysayers and explained why
he chose to make that the cover. Se what he said below.
A lot of (somewhat) controversy over my cover. I know it
was bold and very “what was he thinking”. There is a real meaning behind
it all. I’m at the point now that alot of my true fans need the
entertainment of breaking things down beyond the surface. The way we
think about art vs music . I wanted a cover that tied directly into the
music and the purpose of the album #thegifted . I know who and what I’m
up against in June.(we all know). Allow me to express my artistic POV(point of view) .
Allow yourself to be a part of it. This album I refused to cheat the
listeners . NOT this project. Think STORYBOOK. When u get this look at
the cover and listen simultaneously. Here is the delux edition over .the
actually statue is at Atlantic records maybe well auction it. Or I’ll
put it in my house. Ha! Anyways we a few days out hope y’all enjoy the
